hi I got my waspmote order just two days ago;my order number is 1001621-23/05/2012. I came across a serious problem for my waspmote/waspmote gateway;

I ordered 1 waspmote gateway and 4 waspmotes with XBee Pro; BTW I forgot to order SD card 2 GB
My computer is Windows 7 64 bits

Phase I: I charged the 4 waspmotes Li-on batteries via USB cables for 24 hours

Phase II: Following Quick Start Guide(http://www.libelium.com/development/waspmote/quickstart) I downloaded waspmote IDE for windows and configured it settings. I can't find where I can set the 4 parameters in quick start guide
Launch the serial monitor application (manual chapters 14.2, 14.3 and 14.4) and set the next parameters:
USB port: 38000bps
8bits
1 bit stop
no parity setting

But still, when I plugged waspmote gateway in my desktop and turned on waspmote 1, my Serial Monitor received data frame showing MAC, xyz, temperature, battery like this in checklist:
Image

Phase III: I continued to follow Quick Start Guide, and thought I could upload "hello world!" program to Waspmote 1 via waspmote gateway. But it gave me error "avrdude: tk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51 ".
I realized I might got the same mistake like http://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8817 that I should connect Waspmote directly with desktop USB;

Phase IV: I bought a new 2GB micro SD card from Bestbuy and inserted it into Waspmote 1; I unplugged waspmote gateway and connected Waspmote 1 directly with desktop USB; I used waspmote IDE to upload "hello world!" program to waspmote 1; the Serial Monitor printed out "hello world!" every 2 seconds

Phase V: I started to try Over-the-air programming. I downloaded otap libray and configured xbee.conf. Waspmote gateway is connected with my desktop USB and waspmote 1 is swiched on. I ran otap64.bat in command line to search waspmote node(-scan_nodes) but can't find any. I switched on waspmote 2,3,4 but still can't find any. The problem occured.

Phase VI: I stopped otap64.bat and closed command line window. I set Tools->Board and Tools->Serial Port in waspmote IDE correctly. I repeated Phase II with waspmote 1, but serial monitor was always empty. No mac frames, xyz, temperatures, battery data. I repeated Phase II with waspmote 2,3,4, but serial monitor was still always empty.

Phase VII: Maybe only Waspmote 1 came with a default program which shows the MAC address of the waspmote through the gateway as shown in Phase II, but waspmote 2,3,4 didn't.
so by following checklist( http://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7702 ) I unplugged waspmote gateway from my desktop and connected Waspmote 1 directly with desktop USB; I found wasp_start_program_full_ZB_v1.pde in waspmote IDE exmple folder, saved it, compiled it, uploaded it to Waspmote 1 successfully. Then I disconnected Waspmote 1 from my desktop and plugged waspmote gateway with my desktop USB. I set Tools->Board and Tools->Serial Port in waspmote IDE correctly. I repeated Phase II with waspmote 1, but still serial monitor was always empty. No mac frames, xyz, temperatures, battery data.

Note that I inserted my new 2GB micro SD card in waspmote 1. Waspmote 1,2,3,4 should all come with the same default program which shows the MAC address like in Phase II. I didn't modify programs in waspmote 2,3,4. Is it because waspmote gateway is broken when I tired to upload "hello world" program to waspmote 1 via waspmote gateway in Phase III?

What could be the problem? Do you think I need to send my new order back to libelium via Fedex for repair?

I just tried it in another desktop windows xp 32 bit and plug/unplug micro SD card. Still, serial monitor in waspmote IDE showed No mac frames, xyz, temperatures, battery data for all waspmote 1,2,3,4.

I found out the XBee module in my waspmote gateway had problem in working.

I can't connect the XBee module in my waspmote gateway via X-CTU based on the profile setting in checklist. it always mentions "Unable to communicate with modem"

However, I can connect the XBee module in my 4 waspmotes successfully.

Hi,

1. Are you using XBee-ZB?
2. When you connect your XBee module in your gateway, do you choose the correct COM port?
3. Try to upload the corresponding code from this link: http://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=7741
4. Tell us if you see anything through the serial monitor connected to Waspmote.

Best regards

Please view my posts above carefully. You can refer to my another topic post http://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9195

I'm using XBee-ZB-Pro. I connect COM port correctly. I think It has nothing to do with code or serial monitor now

Now I'm pretty sure it's the XBee-ZB-Pro module in my waspmote gateway had problem in working. If I replace it with other XBee-ZB-Pro module from other waspmote, the gateway can receive mac frames from the rest waspmote.

Specifically, I can't connect the XBee-ZB-Pro module in my waspmote gateway via X-CTU based on the profile setting(Baud, Flow Control, Data Bits,...) in checklist( viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7702 ). it always mentions "Unable to communicate with modem"

However, I can connect the XBee-ZB-Pro modules in my 4 waspmotes via X-CTU successfully.

I'm not sure it's the hardware problem or software problem of the XBee-ZB-Pro module in my waspmote gateway. Can you give me some instructions to fix its setting via X-CTU, or do i need to return it for repair?

What should I do? If I need to restore the XBee-ZB-Pro module in my waspmote gateway. what steps should I do? Detailed solution is highly appreciated. Thanks!

We think this indicates the source of your problem. Can you try the following X-CTU configuration so as to find the XBee module problems:
1.Baud:9600; Not enable api
2.Baud:9600; enable api; Not enable AP2
3.Baud:9600; enable api; enable AP2
4.Baud:38400; Not enable api
5.Baud:38400; enable api; Not enable AP2
6.Baud:38400; enable api; enable AP2

Besides, you can try it opening a serial port and introducing AT commands.

Once you know the correct configuration you can open the serial port with the correct baud rate and listen to the received packets.

Best regards

Thanks for your reply. Yesterday I used X-CTU Modem Configuration to save the factory profile of XBee-PRO s2 module of my waspmote(router) as XBP24ZB_ROUTERAPI_23A0.pro, and then use X-CTU to connect my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway.
Afterwards I used X-CTU Modem Configuration to load XBP24ZB_ROUTERAPI_23A0.pro into my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway. Now my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway can receive the data frames(MAC, xyz, battery..) from XBee-PRO s2 module of my waspmote(router).

But actually the profile of my current XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway is incorrect. It should be a coordinator profile, not a router profile copied from XBee-PRO s2 module of my waspmote(router).

So what I exactly need is: the original factory coordinator profile for my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway, but I can't find it anywhere.

I tried to follow this post(http://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8143), but it doesn't work properly.

How to generate the factory coordinator profile of the XBee-PRO s2 module in waspmote gateway? If you have off-the-shelf XBee-PRO s2 module in waspmote gateway in hand, it's super super easy for you. You just use X-CTU to connect it, go to X-CTU Modem Configuration, save its profile and email to me(wangzj@asu.edu). Then I reload it to my XBee-PRO s2 module in waspmote gateway. Isn't it super super easy for you?

Here is a photo of my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway, followed by the original factory profile of XBee-PRO s2 module of my waspmote(router) (XBP24ZB_ROUTERAPI_23A0.pro).
Maybe they can give you hints to generate the factory coordinator profile of the XBee-PRO s2 module in waspmote gateway and email it to me.

Hi,

A profile defines the parameters of a XBee module. But you can always change between different firmwares within the same protocol. So if you have an XBeeZB you can change its firmware:end device, router or coordinator. You have several versions for each type of firmware.
You can check and download the different firmwares from here: ftp://ftp1.digi.com/support/firmware/update/
You can change the firmware of your XBee using X-CTU tool as it is explained in the tutprial of our web.

Best regards

I've followed your suggestions to update firmware. my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway(coordinator) still can't communicate with my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote(router). I think maybe I get some settings wrong.

If you can provide me with the exact original factory coordinator profile for my XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway(coordinator), then it's done. It just takes you seconds. I've spent one week on this.

I have to post the photos of my current XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway(coordinator) and XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote(router). The XBee-PRO s2 module of waspmote gateway is XBP24-Z7SIT-001 revH 0013A200 4077A02D.

or Could you help me correct the parameters of XBee-PRO s2 module in waspmote gateway(coordinator)? That will be really help. Thanks.
