 Post subject: *READ ME FIRST*: Meshlium Checklist

1 Introduction
If you find difficulties using Meshlium, first please make sure you read the documentation available on our website:
- for general information and hardware, go to our Support Section.
- to get information about the Manager System and software, please visit the Development Section.

You should also search in the forum, as most of the possible questions have been answered there.

If the problem persists, and before writing in the forum, follow all the points of the next checklists.



2 Power System
- Power
Ensure Meshlium is properly connected to power. Check the wall adapter is connected to a plug wich supplies compatible voltage 110V – 220V:

- PoE
Ensure Meshlium is properly connected to power and data adapter is connected to the wall adapter

The Meshlium is connected to the PoE adapter through the PoE plug using a non cross over cable:

3 Checking the Connection through an External Router
It can be also an Ethernet switch, but must be a DHCP server in the network.

The PoE adapter is connected to a switch/router using normal Ethernet cable:

Wait 5 minutes for Meshlium to start and get the IP.

Install the Nmap utility from their official website (available for Windows, Mac and Linux).

Open a command line prompt:

* on Windows: go to Start Button → All programs → Accessories → Command Prompt:

* on Mac: go to Finder → Go → Utilities → Terminal:

* on Linux: choose the available one according to your distribution.

Execute the following command (change the IP address to whose):

You have to look for a reply with the name “PC Engines GmbH”, and above it will appear the IP address of Meshlium.



4 Checking the Connection with the Crossover Cable
The PoE adapter, PC and Meshlium must be connected in the following way:

Configure your PC in the same network that Meshlium is by default when a DHCP server is not detected:


* on Windows: go to Start button → Control Panel → Network and Internet → Change adapter Settings. Now right click on your Ethernet connection and then click on the Properties option.

In this window select the “Internet Protocol Version” and then click the “Properties” button:

In this window put an address in the subnet 192.168.1.1/192.168.1.255

* on Linux: execute the following commands:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop
ifconfig eth0 inet 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default 192.168.1.100
ifconfig eth0 up


* on Mac: go to Apple logo → System Preferences → Network preferences, and change the Ethernet parameter to the subnet 192.168.1.1/192.168.1.255:

Power Meshlium and wait 5 minutes for Meshlium to start.

5 Checking the Connection via WiFi
You only need to connect Meshlium to power the following way:

Check that the antenna connected to the WiFi connector is the correct one.

Power Meshlium and wait 5 minutes for Meshlium to start.

Check, using the web interface, that the SSID you're looking for is the one that is visible in the Manager System and is not Hide:

Look for an ESSID with the name “meshlium” and no security settings (default when shipped, if you have changed it, you have to see for the changed name):

* on Linux Ubuntu, click on the Network Manager icon on the tray to list the available WiFi networks and click on the one that Meshlium is managing:

* on Windows 7, click on the network icon on the tray to show a list of available WiFi networks:

* on Mac, click on the radius icon on the tray to list the available WiFi networks:

6 GPRS Connection Checklist
Check that the antenna connected to the GPRS connector is the correct one:

Check, using a cell phone, that the coverage of your mobile operator is good in that point:

Check, using a cell phone, if the card has enabled SIM security code, and so use it in Meshlium GPRS configuration page.

Check, using the web interface, that the configuration of the GPRS setting is correct. Contact your operator to get correct parameters in case you're not sure about them.

If you want to start the GPRS connection every time Meshlium is powered on, you need to mark the appropiate checkbox and click the “Save” button.


7 ZigBee Configuration Checklist
Check that the antenna connected to the XBee connector is the correct one

Check that the XBee module is receiving the data. Access meshlium through SSH and execute the following:

meshlium:~# ps aux | grep Zigbee (this command must return nothing)
meshlium:~# capturer S0 38400
setting speed 38400
ttyS0 chosen
...
Press Ctrl+c to close the program
(here you'll see the received data)


Check that the destination MAC address programmed in the Waspmotes is the one that is visible using the Manager System interface:

Press “Check status” to see if the radio is working correctly:

When checking the reception of data with the web interface use the “Show me NOW” tab to see the data coming from Waspmotes:
