Probably Wi-Fi problem in Smart Environment PRO

Post by gpelekanos » Thu Nov 30, 2017 4:20 pm

Hi,
We have two Smart Environment PRO units and two Meshlium AP for gathering data. We have developed a simple measurement application that connects through WiFi to a Meshlium and pushes the measurement packets. One of the unit had connection problems from the beginning while the other is still running fine. The one with the problem was initially running as expected but after a few weeks we could see any measurements from the unit.

For testing the unit we have uploaded your simple scan and AP connection examples that are provided by your knowledge base but unfortunately there seems that the wi-fi module must be dead since it fails to initialize on WIFI_PRO.ON(SOCKET0) (it shows the AT+iRP10 AT command in the debugging monitor).

Please provide as with an RMA.

Hi,

In order to know if there is any hardware problem, please perform some additional tests. Could you check the battery level? Also please try to upload the example codes using the last API v029 to avoid bugs fixed. You can download the IDE again, which include the API v029, here
http://www.libelium.com/development/was ... lications/

On the other hand, please upload the following code to the node in order to check if the WiFi PRO module is detected. Please you copy here the output through the serial monitor

Hi,
It seems it cannot detect anymore the radio module. The debug monitor output follows

Code: Select all

Global variable '_serial_id':0B636F057C105409
Waspmote serial ID: 0B636F057C105409
SD OK

Hi,

The battery level of the P&S is 1%. It is very low battery level. Please you charge the P&S during a day and try again. A low battery level causes a malfunction of the P&S.

After a full recharge we have seen the same behavior. As time passing the complaints of our client rises too. Please send us an rma for the unit, except if we have to try something else.

Hi,

Please you perform the previous test again. We think that the issue occurs because the battery level was very low. Please share with us the output through the serial monitor again.

Hi

The battery level is reported as 100% by the API call PWR.getBatteryLevel(). We've copied and pasted the call in the beginning of the setup call in order to show you the battery level. The result follows:

Code: Select all

H#
Starting Waspmote factory default program
************************************************
Battery level (%): 100
************************************************
Global variable '_serial_id':0B636F057C105409
Waspmote serial ID: 0B636F057C105409
SD OK

No radio module detected

===============================
===============================
Current ASCII Frame:
Length: 55
Frame Type:  134
frame (HEX): 3C3D3E86022330423633364630353743313035343039236E6F64655F69642330234143433A3335333B3533393B333333234241543A3023
frame (STR): <=>†#0B636F057C105409#node_id#0#ACC:353;539;333#BAT:0#
===============================
the frame above is printed just by USB (no radio module detected)
enter deep sleep

Note that the unit was always powered by a PSU through the USB port, so there shouldn't be any problem regarding the power or of the battery being "abused" in continuous charging/discharging cycles.

Hi,

The frame reports that the battery level is 0%.
frame (STR): <=>†#0B636F057C105409#node_id#0#ACC:353;539;333#BAT:0#

Depending on the code used, the P&S may consume more than the current that the USB port can supply. The wifi module has a high current consumption that comes from the battery. If the battery is discharged, it can't power the module.

Please check the battery level with this code

Code: Select all

void setup()
{
  // Open the USB connection
  USB.ON();
  USB.println(F("PWR_4 example"));
}

void loop()
{
  // Show the remaining battery level
  USB.print(F("Battery Level: "));
  USB.print(PWR.getBatteryLevel(),DEC);
  USB.print(F(" %"));

  // Show the battery Volts
  USB.print(F(" | Battery (Volts): "));
  USB.print(PWR.getBatteryVolts());
  USB.println(F(" V"));

  delay(5000);
}
