Smart Water - connection to 3G network Canada

Post by apel » Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:42 pm

Greetings,
I am trying to configure the Smart Water device to get into the 3G Network.

I set few function to check the 3G connection ; see here below system response:

H#
USB port started...
APN: internet.com
LOGIN: wapuser1
PASSWORD: wap
--********************************************************---
answer 3G.ON
1
3G module ready...
answer 3G.check
1
answer 3G.getIP
0
Sleeping...

despite the 3G seems to be connected it seems that I am not reaching the remote test dB when I try to send a frame.

Hi,

Are you working with Waspmote v12 or v15? Do you have Waspmote OEM or P&S? What API are you using?

Could you run this code and copy here the output you get? Just replace the apn setting and the pin code

Greetings

thanks for the feedback; here my answers

Are you working with Waspmote v12 or v15?
I use the latest version avalable on your website : waspmote-pro-ide-v06.02

Do you have Waspmote OEM or P&S?
This is something I need some more explanations....

What API are you using?
I use the latest version avalable on your website : waspmote-pro-api-v028

I am using a 3G sketch but the environment here in Canada is LTE,4G,3G
In the area where we set the instrument we have only 3G but I guess it is a rescale of the 4G
Should I use the 4G to connect anyway ?

I run the code :

H#
USB port started...
---******************************************************************************---
GET method to the libelium's test url with frame...
You can use this php to test the HTTP connection of the module.
The php returns the parameters that the user sends with the URL.
In this case the RTC time and the battery level.
---******************************************************************************---
APN: internet.com
LOGIN: wapuser1
PASSWORD: wap
---******************************************************************************---
3G module ready...
3G module connected to the network...
Getting URL with GET method...Failed. Error code: -1
Getting URL with POST method...Failed. Error code: -1
Sleeping...

I get some warning in the compilation but no error:

C:\Users\APEL\AppData\Local\Temp\waspmote_modified_sketch_356138\From_Libelium_v1.pde: In function 'void setup()':

C:\Users\APEL\AppData\Local\Temp\waspmote_modified_sketch_356138\From_Libelium_v1.pde:48:50: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' [-Wwrite-strings]

_3G.set_APN("internet.com", "wapuser1", "wap");

Hi,

Please take a look at this topic in order to know what device do you have.
viewtopic.php?f=51&t=22538

Are you using a 3G module? Could you post some photos of your devices?

Got it!

H#
H#
Start program
v15

btw , as mentioned I would have tested the 4G which previously failed and it seems to work
Now : our intention is to set and leave the system (after calibration) at the field location.
How do we interact with the remote unit?
Smart water should be able to send periodically the information to a database via the 3G location.
what kind of DB and where is located and defined?
Is there any application that can be used to connect to the remote unit via the network?
See below results

API responds:

H#
Start program

*****************************
APN: internet.com
LOGIN: wapuser1
PASSWORD: wap
*****************************
1. 4G module ready
connection_status
1.1. Module connected to network
1.2. RSSI: -107 dBm
1.3. Network type: HSDPA
1.4. Operator: ROGERS
2. Switch OFF 4G module
3. Enter deep sleep...
4. Wake up!!

and when I send a test frame :

H#
Start program
*****************************
APN: internet.com
LOGIN: wapuser1
PASSWORD: wap
*****************************
1. 4G module ready...
Sending the frame...Done. HTTP code: 200
Server response: method::POST;<br>POST;frame::3C3D3E86012335373534363730353743313035343633236E6F64655F303123302354494D453A362D33392D333923;<br>TIME:6-39-39 ,

4. Switch OFF 4G module
5. Enter deep sleep...

on the :

Do you have Waspmote OEM or P&S?

We have a P&S; I decipher the acronym Plug and Sense.

Thanks

Hi,

Please take a look at Smart Water Board Guide and 4G Networking Guide to know more information about your device.
http://www.libelium.com/downloads/docum ... _board.pdf
http://www.libelium.com/downloads/docum ... _guide.pdf

You can use the examples code as starting point to create your code, you can see the examples for the 4G module and for the Smart Water board here

To close this topic;
the provider of the SW Libelium hardware insisted on the compatibility of the EU/BR model which I discovered via the diagnostic code with the Canadian Network. I proved the engineers wrong;
I returned the piece of hardware and got the correct one and everything started to work.

Glad to hear that the problem was solved.

The technical guide for 4G module explains that the module for Canada is the LE910-NAG (US/Canada), not LE910-EU (EU/BR).
