osamakamal,

You could use it (because it has same SMA RP connector). Probably it would work for short ranges, but you won't achieve larger distances. Besides that, we do not know if it can cause other problems, interferences, etc.

Our recommendation is to use a 868MHz antenna for your XBee module, like this one:

As I have this high gain antenna.....I would like to use it....although I need to use it to extend my range above 20 KM. I just want to place it on receiving site so that better range will observed. However the antenna u mentioned I am already using in my moving waspmote device. This is just for receiving site.

I just want to place high gain antenna to my receiving site. Can u tell me that high gain 900 Mhz antennas will work?

beside this, question is my xbee has operating frequency 868 Mhz. I want to know that antennas of different frequency like 2.4 Ghz and 900 Mhz can be used with this xbee pro 868 module? Digi is offering variety of antennas for 900 Mhz frequency....Is it ok for me? Will I get better range If I use 900 Mhz hiigh gain antennas? Like 10 Dbi yagi etc?

Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

I just tested RF link at about 12 KM. It worked fine. The antenna u had mentioned gives me 12 KM range. Can you tell me it is dipole or omni directional or directional antenna?

The minimum distance I want to cover is 18 KM. So can u plz tell me which antenna will be better? for 360 coverage, What dbi omni directional I should use?

We are going towards meshlium so the antenna issue must be cleared first.

Thanks and Regards

I just summarized it for you to easily answer.

1) For xbee pro 868 single channel, the frequency is 868 Mhz. Can I use antenna of different frequency like 2.4 Ghz or 900 Mhz?

2) The antenna above u mentioned is 4,5 dbi 868/900 Mhz RPSMAM. Is it dipole or omni directional or directional?

3) I got 12 KM range. But after that I couldnt comlete the link although I had proper line of sight. The receiver was placed almost 224ft from the ground and my transmitter was moving in a vehicle with clear line of sight. But I didnt complete link after 12 KM. My application needs minimum 16 to 18 KM maximum distance with 360 coverage. Now can u suggest any antenna to get this range?

4) How much gain will work for me? 8 Dbi? I used 9 Dbi 2.4 Ghz antenna but it didnt work.

We need to deploy meshlium so it is necessary to get this clear first.

Thanks and regards

Hi,

Use a 868/900 antenna, not a 2.4 antenna.
2) The antenna above u mentioned is 4,5 dbi 868/900 Mhz RPSMAM. Is it dipole or omni directional or directional?
It is an omni directional antenna.
3) I got 12 KM range. But after that I couldnt comlete the link although I had proper line of sight. The receiver was placed almost 224ft from the ground and my transmitter was moving in a vehicle with clear line of sight. But I didnt complete link after 12 KM. 4) How much gain will work for me? 8 Dbi? I used 9 Dbi 2.4 Ghz antenna but it didnt work.
As you know, each application is different and also the real field conditions are always worse than the laboratory. Digi sets their radio ranges in the best RF conditions, but probably you will never reach these ranges. We do not have other antennas in our catalogue, so we can not suggest you other one. You can ask digi about this matter. Maybe they know a better answer.
If you require a special antenna for your application, you can talk with your sales agent to know if there are other custom possibilities.

regards
