Few Observations in Meshlium Detection

Post by hamsavardhini09 » Thu Dec 22, 2016 3:54 am

we have configured Azure MySQL as External database in Meshlium Console.

After few hours when we took row count for a particular timestamp say one hour period on both the DB tables [Meshlium and Azure MySQL], we have observed a lot difference in the count. ~1000 entries.

Also,
we have kept few mobile devices close to Meshlium and study those MAC detections.
Two devices HTC and iphone 7 were not detected at all. And few more devices were detected very few times.

Hi hamsavardhini09,

Details about our MAC detection system implemented in Meshlium:

About the MAC detection problem, read this post about MAC randomization used by some vendors.

You have more details in point "13.1 Devices Detected" of Meshlium Technical Guide:

So if you have an specific problem, please send us more information about it and we analize your data to help you.

Hello,

I'd like to follow up on the issue of MAC Address randomization.

The Meshlium Technical Guide, under the section "Devices Detected", mentions iPhone versions up to iPhone 5S. Is this accurate? Is this related to MAC Address randomization?

Is Meshlium impacted by MAC Address randomization? If true, is Meshlium working on finding a solution?

Best regards,

Hi,

MAC Address randomization isn't a problem of detection. Meshlium detects the MAC but it can't be associated with a particular device because it changes every so often. In addition, it is the responsibility of the user to perform this task and not to infringe any privacy law.
