4g module failing

Post by essj » Fri Jun 07, 2019 1:34 pm

Hi,

We are currently using a Waspmote P&S SCP 4GEU/BR to send data to one of our server using https. Everything was working correctly up until recently were we noticed that the waspmote stopped sending data. Looking at similar issues in the forum, we found viewtopic.php?t=24627. Testing the two listing proposed results in the following output:

Code: Select all

J#
Bridge between USB port and SOCKET1
J#
Bridge between USB port and SOCKET1

Code: Select all

J#
Global variable '_serial_id':6321A2E80593E4DF
Waspmote serial ID: 6321A2E80593E4DF
Additionally, we also tested the example _4G_01_enter_pin_codes:

Code: Select all

#include <Wasp4G.h>

// define variables
uint8_t PIN_status;
char PIN_code[30];
uint8_t error;
int counter;
int temp;
uint32_t previous;

void setup()
{
  USB.println(F("****************************************"));
  USB.println(F("This example inits the 4G module and"));
  USB.println(F("request the unlock codes if necessary"));
  USB.println(F("****************************************"));

  //////////////////////////////////////////////////
  // 1. Switch on the 4G module
  //////////////////////////////////////////////////
  previous = millis();
  error = _4G.ON();
  if (error == 0)
  {
    USB.print(F("1. 4G module ready in "));
    USB.print(millis()-previous);
    USB.println(F(" ms"));
  }
  else
  {
    // Problem with the communication with the 4G module
    USB.println(F("1. 4G module not started"));
    USB.print(F("Error code: "));
    USB.println(error, DEC);
  }
}
The _4G.ON() call seems to crash the program as we observed the following output:

Code: Select all

J#
****************************************
This example inits the 4G module and
request the unlock codes if necessary
****************************************
J#
****************************************
This example inits the 4G module and
request the unlock codes if necessary
****************************************
Referring to the linked thread, we assume that the 4G module is malfunctioning and that we should contact the RMA unless you have any other suggestions.

Thanks

Hi,

The node is restarting, so it could be due to a low battery level. Could you please check the battery level? You can use this code
http://www.libelium.com/development/was ... ery-level/

Hi,

We did check the battery level which is at 100% and we still get the error described in the last post. We actually have two SCP P&S waspmotes, the other one works perfectly fine the same sketch. We tried to swap the SIM cards but this doesn't change anything.

Thanks

Hi,

What API are you using to program the nodes? Please download the last API v041 and try again
http://www.libelium.com/development/was ... lications/

It is weird that 2 nodes restart at the same point.

We were using the api v038. Updating it to v041 didn't fix the problem.

When executing the program mentioned in the first post, only one node is restarting, the second one is working normally. That is why we assumed that the 4G module of the failing node is flawed (only restart when executing _4G.ON(), we tried swapping sims and the battery level is ok).
