LoRa frame decoding for beginners

Post by nguillou » Thu Jun 13, 2019 12:06 pm

Hi,

I use PCS to program my Smart Water Plug & Sense .
Connection to LoRa network is fine and I can see data generated by the device on Actility wireless logger

To view data I was trying to use Cayenne which have some standard device templates for Libelium but it does not look to work ;I will then need some manual actions to decode the frames

This is what I get on Actility; according to Libelium documentation, LoRa use tiny frames, then 2 bytes for header; then payload is then 27 bytes and I am facing difficulties to understand where the 27 bytes would be coming from according to my device configuration (6 sensors port, A,B,C and F are used).

Data (hex): 041d34648287112641843e83c842850140293f8bd857e63e86e08ed441

Data size (bytes): 29

Else any better tool than Cayenne that would decode Libelium payload ?

Hi,

This is an example of decoding the payload
04 - secuence number
1d - lenght
34 - battery level sensor ID
64 - 100%
82 - pH sensor ID - float (size 4 bytes)
87112641 - 10.3792791366 pH
84 - DO sensor ID - float (size 4 bytes)
3e83c842 - 100.2563323974 %
.... and so on

You can find the sensors ID and more information in the Data Frame Guide
http://www.libelium.com/downloads/docum ... _guide.pdf

Maybe you can send data to Libelium Cloud Bridge which parses the data and then they are sent to the configured Cloud.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, It helps a lot. To connect to Cayenne, the payload needs to be in LPP format. Is it the case?

Hi,

No, we are sorry but the payload isn't in LPP format. If you want to send data in LPP format you will need to develop the code for the nodes by yourself instead of using the PCS.

Thanks,

Do you have LPP code sample for me to edit/modify?
Then the Cloud Bridge won't help for our case ?

Thanks

Hi,

The Cloud Bridge parsers Libelium frames, it can't parse LPP frames.

We don't have example codes to create LPP frames but a user shared in the forum his code which creates LPP frames. Take a look at the following post for more information

Thanks,

Beside Cayenne that requires LPP format, which IoT platform would be recommended to have readings of parameters in Libelium standard format without much programming ?

Hi,

Using the Libelium Cloud Bridge, you can use any of the Cloud service connectors available. For example, Cumulocity is very easy since there isn't necessary any configuration.

Hi,

Please ask your sales agent to get a free license for the Cloud Bridge.
