Now, Japan and South Korea can take advantage of LoRaWAN features to successfully exploit IoT projects on agriculture, water, building, parking and more.

  • Long Range: A single LoRa base station enables deep penetration capability for dense urban environments and indoor coverage, while also providing the ability to connect to sensors more than 15-30 miles away in rural areas.
  • Low Cost: LoRa reduces upfront infrastructure investments and operating costs, as well as end-node sensor costs.
  • Standardized: LoRaWAN ensures interoperability among applications, IoT solution providers and telecom operators to speed adoption and deployment.
  • Low Power: The LoRaWAN protocol was developed specifically for low power and enables unprecedented multi-year battery lifetime.

Coverage for Australia, ASIA PAC and LATAM with LoRaWAN

Libelium continues to power the Internet of Things (IoT) adding LoRaWAN wireless connectivity for Australia, Asia PAc and LATAM to Waspmote, Plug & Sense! and Smart Parking sensor devices. The Spanish IoT company adds new coverage to its wireless sensor network with Sigfox RC4 radio and with LoRaWAN AU915-928 radio. The Internet of Things company includes new coverage to its wireless sensor network with LoRaWAN AS 923 MHz band.

Libelium reaffirms its commitment to interoperability with a great array of connectivity options for the IoT. The company continues maintaining its focus in LPWAN radio protocols in response to the increasing demand for low-energy, long-range and cost-efficient IoT connectivity. Also we keep offering the widest interoperability in the great array of connectivity choices for the IoT. The company is joining forces with LoRaWAN and Sigfox global network in response to strong demand for low-energy, long-range and cost efficient IoT connectivity in those regions.

“We are successfully offering these protocols in the European version since 2015 and in the American version since 2017 for environment, pollution, water quality and smart parking projects. We strongly believe that making them available in their Australian, Asia Pacific and LATAM version will speed up market adoption” states David Gascón, Libelium’s CTO.

Customers can make their choice of LPWAN preferred protocol for Waspmote Plug & Sense! in different bands -depending on geographic destination- except for Smart Parking model, where both radios (LoRaWAN / Sigfox) may be included on the device. This unique feature of the system allows the use of both radio technologies at the same time or switch from one to the other easily from the Cloud. “We have managed to offer a dual radio in our Smart Parking node at a very competitive price, which increases our customers’ options, one of our design principles”, explains Gascón.

This is one more necessary step to achieve universal IoT access. This year 2018, the number of countries covered by Libelium platform with LoRaWAN connectivity has risen exponentially. The company has added coverage for countries such as China and India, where the IoT is currently having a great expansion, with very positive expectations in the near future”, states David Gascón, Libelium CTO.

In fact, the IoT market in China reached more than $146 billion last year, and is expected to maintain rapid growth in the next few years. A report, titled the Annual IoT Industry Development Report of China, estimated that the nation’s IoT market will hit $216 billion by the end of this year.

This new LoRaWAN coverage will speed up market adoption of the Internet of Things for smart cities environment, pollution, agriculture precision, water quality and smart parking projects in these areas.

For India:

Libelium continues to power the Internet of Things (IoT) adding LoRaWAN wireless connectivity for India to Waspmote, Plug & Sense! and Smart Parking sensor devices. The Spanish IoT company adds new coverage to its wireless sensor network with LoRaWAN 865 – 867 MHz band.

By 2025, 1 out of every 9 smart devices is set to be connected with one form of low powered wide area network technologies (LPWAN). In support, Libelium offers the widest interoperability with a huge variety of connectivity choices for the IoT in response to strong demand for the LPWAN which is gaining traction globally. In fact, Libelium has recently announced new LPWAN coverage for Australia, Asia Pacific and Latam with LoRaWAN and Sigfox technologies.

While North America, Greater China and Europe are, expectedly, the runaway leaders, India is moving ahead in this domain. A recent report pegged the annual IoT growth rate in India (for the 2017-2020 period) at ~41%, over the worldwide growth rate. With proven benefits in a large number of fields – from smart agriculture and home automation, to sensor-based weather forecasting, smart water management or smart cities applications – LoRaWAN is rapidly gaining in popularity and adoption across the globe.

Libelium has quadrupled its turnover in India in the last 5 years demonstrating growing demand in this country. Libelium operates in this area through five distributors -AqTronics, Arrow, Intrinsic, Okkos and Pentagon- functioning as system integrators developing new corporate and smart city projects in a market where investments in IoT technology are increasing. Universities and research centres are also very important in this market due to the development and prototyping of the electronics industry.

In India there is a lot of research work, developments and trials performed using LPWAN technology. Moreover, Tata Communications announced recently that its LoRa network will cover most of India by the end of 2019 with deployment in 38 cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Other providers of LoRaWAN connectivity such as Senet, SenRa and Kerlink, are powering the deployment and rapid expansion of the network throughout India. In fact, Kerlink is deploying what it describes as the world’s biggest LoRa network in India in partnership with Tata Communications. The network will bring connectivity to more than 400 million people across 2,000 cities and communities through more than 10,000 so-called connectivity “stations”.

With this update, Libelium releases LoRaWAN IN865–867 radio, for India, adding it to its portfolio with the previous radios: AU 915-928, EU 863-870 and US902-928. Following this release Libelium IoT Sensor Platform is ready to use LoRaWAN connectivity in India, Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.
