Financial record and strategic validation

Libelium closes the 2025 financial year with a turnover of €11.8 million, a 40% increase on the previous year. This double-digit growth validates the company’s strategy: adapting technology to the real challenges faced by cities and companies seeking to anticipate, optimize, and evolve towards more sustainable and profitable governance models.

This growth demonstrates that sustainability and profitability must go hand in hand. In a volatile environment, only those who manage their vulnerability are able to anticipate.

“We closed 2025 with the certainty that datocracy is a strategic decision. Growing 40% by promoting European Data Spaces proves that it is possible to govern with data while protecting rights and moving towards real and sustainable digital maturity.”
Alicia Asín
CEO of Libelium

These figures were officially presented in Zaragoza during the launch of its annual report: “The Green Book of Libelium 2025”. In addition to serving as a financial statement, the document functions as a compass that integrates milestones, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) policies, and the brand’s vision for the future.

The driving force: European Data Spaces

The key to this rise lies in Libelium’s positioning within European digital sovereignty. The company has been able to anticipate the continent’s regulatory needs, earning more than €2 million exclusively from projects linked to Data Spaces.

This approach has consolidated its leadership in critical initiatives such as SEDIA data spaces and the European Local Digital Toolbox.

In addition, Libelium is actively involved in shaping the digital future as a member of the Gaia-X Board of Directors, working on a federated and secure data infrastructure for the whole of Europe. This year, it has also joined OASC (Open Agile Smart Cities) as a consulting body to help define the minimum technical requirements for the interoperability of smart solutions implemented by European cities.

The Green Book: expert knowledge for datocracy

Every year, in addition to the insights of Alicia Asín, CEO and co-founder of Libelium, and Antonio J. Jara, CSO and board member, the report always features international expert voices on important topics.

In this edition, The Green Book of Libelium 2025 features three profiles that address the different challenges of governing with data:

  • Ulrich Ahle, CEO of Gaia-X, analyzes data sovereignty and governance in the European context and highlights the need for ecosystems where data flows reliably, allowing European companies to innovate without ceding control to external platforms.
  • Dra. May East, an expert in the use of gender-sensitive data for urban planning, criticizes the narrow focus on optimization and proposes using AI for bio-cultural-spatial justice. Author of book What if Women Designed the City?”.
  • Luisa Alli, director of the Hermes Foundation, contributes one of the most necessary perspectives in the report: technological progress with values guaranteeing rights in the digital age.

Sustainability and social commitment at the heart of the strategy

Libelium’s growth would not be possible without the people behind it. In terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the company has renewed its RSA+ seal and EFR certification for the sixth year running.

RSA+ (Resposabilidad Social de Aragón Plus)

The RSA+ (Responsabilidad Social de Aragón Plus) seal is a recognition that certifies Libelium's solid commitment to its environment and society, demonstrating concrete actions in key areas of corporate social responsibility. This distinction highlights the company's commitment to Equality and Diversity, Corporate Volunteering, support for the Culture of Aragon, and strategic alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Environmental commitment

The environmental commitment is quantifiable: the company's operations have prevented the emission of 3,613 tons of CO2 equivalent. In the social sphere, Libelium reinforces its commitment to diversity with its LGTBIQA+ Equality Plan and a workforce where 35% of women have STEM degrees, a benchmark figure in the sector.

EFR certification

The EFR certification, obtained for the sixth consecutive year, demonstrates the company's commitment to work-life balance measures. One of the most notable measures this year has been The Growth Plan, an internal initiative focused on promoting a change in corporate culture towards a market-oriented approach. This change is being driven by the training of mentors and mentees to ensure the assimilation of the new culture. Flexible working hours, leave to accompany family members (first day of school, doctor's appointments) and the possibility of teleworking three days a week are other notable measures in this regard.

New milestones in information security

To support its strategic commitment to Data Spaces and digital sovereignty, Libelium has raised its corporate security standards to a new level this year.

In 2025, the company added two critical milestones to its portfolio: obtaining ISO 27001, the international gold standard in Information Security, and certification of compliance with the National Security Scheme (ENS) in the HIGH category. These new seals, which guarantee maximum data protection and confidentiality, join the renewals of ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), consolidating a robust framework of trust that is essential for operating with governments and large corporations.

Real impact from Panama to Malta

Libelium’s vision of datocracy comes to life in the Green Book through tangible projects that protect both critical infrastructure and our global historical legacy. A prime example is the digitization of the Panama Canal, where the company has deployed a “virtual diver” based on the Smart Water Xtreme solution that monitors water quality 24/7 using AI to prevent contamination in this vital artery of global trade.

In Europe, technology acts as a shield for heritage: from Genoa, where the first digital twin model has been created to protect the historic Palazzi dei Rolli from pollution, to the Alhambra, where sensors allow damage from humidity and temperature to be anticipated before it becomes irreparable.

Similarly, in Malta’s idyllic Golden Bay, people flow monitoring technology is helping to balance tourist demand with the conservation of a UNESCO-protected environment, demonstrating that data-driven management is the key to true sustainability.

Towards the 20th Anniversary

With these results, Libelium faces 2026 with the ambition of celebrating its 20th anniversary while maintaining its momentum. The company plans to sustain this growth over the next three years, driven by the conviction that data is the new common language between government, businesses, and citizens.

Libelium demonstrates that profitability and social and environmental responsibility go hand in hand, creating digital twins that not only monitor the world but also help to transform it.
