Libelium joins oasc

Libelium is officialy part of the Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) international network. This strategic move underscores Libelium’s deep commitment to fostering an open technological ecosystem, empowering cities worldwide to implement scalable, efficient smart solutions while mitigating the risks of vendor lock-in.

For years, Libelium has served as a pivotal technology partner in several key European projects spearheaded by OASC. These initiatives include SENSE (focusing on the development of citiverse concepts), Geo4Water (dedicated to enhancing natural disaster resilience), and BeatTheHeat (addressing urban heat island effects). In these projects, Libelium has consistently provided invaluable expertise in digital twins and the creation of interoperable data platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and integration across diverse urban applications.

We have tons to say on Digital Twins

With its entry as a full member, Libelium elevates its engagement from an executive role to one of the voices to be heard to shape the future of open urban data standards. The company will now play a consulting role in the definition of MIM8, the work group focused on establishing robust and internationally recognized standards for urban digital twins. This involvement ensures that the theoretical framework of these standards is grounded in practical, real-world applications and addresses the pressing needs of modern cities.

Alicia Asín, CEO of Libelium, emphasized the foundational importance of open standards in her statement: “We cannot talk about creating sustainable digital twins if they are not based on open standards. Our extensive experience in pioneering projects has provided us with a practical, hands-on understanding of the complex challenges facing cities today. Now, we are bringing that invaluable knowledge directly to the definition of the MIMs. This ensures that the future standards we help shape will genuinely respond to the real needs and urgent demands of the present, ultimately facilitating more resilient, efficient, and livable urban environments.”

Libelium’s commitment to OASC and its active participation in defining open standards for digital twins signify a major step forward in the global smart city movement. By advocating for interoperability and open technologies, Libelium aims to democratize access to advanced urban solutions, enabling more cities to embark on their digital transformation journeys with confidence and long-term sustainability.

We are eager to help OASC to accelerate the development and adoption of smart city technologies, fostering a future where urban innovation is collaborative, accessible, and truly impactful.
