New Particle Matter – Dust Sensor (PM1 / PM2.5 / PM10)

Libelium new particle matter sensor uses light scattering theory and particle counting technology and can accurately detect the number of particles in its surroundings to provide useful reference data for environmental improvement. With the new dust sensor we can obtain information about particle size and density ranging from 1um to 10um (PM1 / PM2.5 / PM10). Read More.

Sailing Tracker

This project was developed to monitor racing ships during competitions. It was required to measure navigation parameters maintaining the adequate acquisition times and data consistency. It was also important to communicate the collected information not only to a remote localization but also to the crew members using long-range wireless communication. The new system developed for […]

Waspmote to create a complete Smart Agriculture system

Agriculture not only suffers the impacts of climate change, it is also responsible for 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Hit by the worst drought in 60 year this year, the Horn of Africa is suffering from famine and hunger. Figures compiled by the Department for International Development (DfID) suggest that between 50,000 and 100,000 people, more than half of them children under five, died in the 2011 Horn of Africa crisis that affected Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Waspmote can be used to monitor different environmental parameters related to agriculture such as temperature, humidity, soil temperature/humidity, weather station, leaf wetness and many other parameters. Waspmote to prevent Forest Fires

Waspmote to prevent Forest Fires

Fires, both man-made and natural, contribute to forest loss. Last week more than 100 Forest Fires broke out in the eastern part of Russia's Siberia, affecting more than 57,000 hectares of land. Waspmote can be used to monitor different environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, CO, CO2 and many other gases. The monitoring of these parameters can be used to determine the areas where a forest fire is more likely to break out.

Australian researchers from Edith Cowan University's Centre for Communications Engineering Research have used Waspmote to test Wireless Sensor Networks for detecting and preventing Forest Fires in the future

Libelium releases Meshlium Xtreme - the first multi-protocol wireless router - offering a powerful bridge between ZigBee wireless sensor networks and the Internet.

Meshlium Xtreme is a modular, wireless, multiprotocol, mesh, outdoor router running Linux. It uniquely combines five wireless technologies - WiFi, ZigBee, GPRS, Bluetooth and GPS - as well as wireline Ethernet. The router provides wireless sensor networks a ZigBee gateway to the Internet and enables the storage of sensor data in both internal and external data base systems.

10 Years of mote evolution: from WeC to Waspmote

10 Years of mote evolution: from WeC to Waspmote

It has been more than 10 years since the first mote (WeC) was released by the Berkeley University. Since then multiple platforms have been developed by research centers, universities and companies.

The Sensors & Instrumentation Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) based in London, UK, talks inside the study titled "Power Management Technologies to Enable Remote and Wireless Sensing" (pdf here) about the different mote families and its evolution during the last 10 years.

It is a big pleasure for Libelium to see how Waspmote is said as the natural evolution of the mote platforms as it counts not only with a bunch of different modules (ZigBee, Bluetooth, GPRS, GPS) but also with an open source compilation environment and programming libraries and multiple sensor boards what makes it really easy for developers and researchers to start creating wireless sensor networks from the first day.

Power Management Technologies to Enable Remote and Wireless Sensing

Power Management Technologies to Enable Remote and Wireless Sensing

The UK’s Sensors & Instrumentation Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) published a study on power management technologies enabling self-powered wireless sensor networks. It groups optimisation strategies into three levels: microprocessor, node, and network. The report highlights Waspmote as a success case due to its ultra-low power consumption modes, especially hibernation at just 0.7µA, making it ideal for long-life, maintenance-free sensing deployments.

Waspmote is released

Libelium has officially launched today the Waspmote platform. The research efforts have focused on providing a minimum consumption (0.7uA in the Hibernate mode), and at the same time, maximum performance and capabilities. Waspmote counts with seven different models of communication radios which can be chosen depending on: * Frequency: 2.4GHz, 900MHz, 868MHz * Protocol: 802.15.4, […]
